A Short Walkthrough to Installing Windows 10 on an Asus Chromebox. In a previous post originally from 2015, I provided a walkthough on how to set up an Asus Chromebox out of the box with Ubuntu. Now, I provide information on how I setup the same Chromebox with Windows 10, especially since I hit a few snags along the way.

Tried integrating them with R7Lite, tried doing an unattended setup, but each time, it gets stuck on the select language starting screen. My next step is to format all of the internal drive, and then boot from a USB to a Live CD and then copy all the files over, then boot from a Windows install disc into a recovery console and repair the bootloader. ChromeBox Video Playback Settings (2/2) 3.5 Switching between Standalone and Dual Boot configurations If you have a dual boot setup and wish to switch to a standalone setup, the steps are no different than installing on a 'fresh' system, though you can obviously skip the steps you have already performed (removing the write-protect screw, putting the box in developer mode). The easiest way to do this is to boot ChromeOS ([CTRL+D] from Developer Mode boot screen / before SeaBIOS loads) and re-run the E-Z Setup Script as before. If you can't boot ChromeOS for whatever reason, then simply create/boot a Linux ISO from USB (I use/recommend GalliumOS) and run the script from a terminal there. If you have an LibreELEC dual boot setup and are switching to an LibreELEC standalone setup, then you can backup your settings etc using the built-in tools, copy to another PC/USB, and then restore after performing the standalone setup. If you have a standalone setup and wish to switch to a dual boot setup, you need to first, then, after which you can continue with the dual boot setup. 4 Recommended Accessories / Hardware Upgrades For most users, there's no need to upgrade the ChromeBox's RAM or HDD; LibreELEC uses minimal RAM and disk space, and there's no benefit to upgrading.
Hey Man, Just reporting my findings, Could not get Windows 7 to Boot, no matter what, 0x0000007 something error each time. I then tried to Install Windows 7 to the SSD by booting to the install USB, but theres no USB 3.0 drivers for the setup so you can't click anything. Tried integrating them with R7Lite, tried doing an unattended setup, but each time, it gets stuck on the select language starting screen.
You can see a bright silver underneath the screw, while the other screws on the motherboard have a bronze color under them. Remove the screw and reattach the bottom onto your Chromebook. You can now write to and modify the Chromebook’s BIOS. Keep the screw in case you want to write protect your BIOS again later.
• You may need to install curl, which you can do by typing sudo apt install curl • With the command line entered, you should be prompted to select an option. You want to Install/Update Custom UEFI Firmware (Standalone). This should only take a minute or two. • Once completed, restart (which may take a while to actually restart) and remove the Ubuntu usb drive. • Now insert the Windows 10 USB drive and Chromebox should boot from it. Standalone setup replaces the ChromeOS firmware (software) with a new firmware – this fixes some issues and reduces the boot time. This means that you cannot easily run ChromeOS (should you want to) but you can run the open source variant ChromiumOS. The firmware installed for standalone setup is only valid on Haswell based Chromeboxes. Haswell is a recent Intel CPU architecture. My Chromebox has a Intel Celeron 2955U Processor – this is a Haswell CPU. Ok, I found a solution in case this helps anyone. I was stuck at the “booting Kernel” message during the install and nothing seemed to work.
On some Chromebooks, you may find a write protection switch instead. First, turn off your Chromebook. Don’t just put it to sleep—perform a full shutdown. Flip the Chromebook over and unscrew the bottom to gain access to the motherboard. On our Chromebook, this required unscrewing 18 screws before we could remove the plastic panel.
