Jan 22, 2017  Have DSM 6.0.2-8451 and installed surveillance station. I want to addd some extra camera licences. I use add license wizard from surveillance station, then i wrote license key, and finally aktivate by pressing button FINISH.

(as a matter of fact it was de last point of all the 'new' things this version does) 26. Online activation is now required for adding camera licenses to indemnify user´s rights and interests. The most possible explanation is something went haywire with licenses been blacklisted. SS is calling home!!!

This is not a mass reported issue. Sub 100 users between the V6-> v7 upgrade and now the v7->v8 upgrade.

Lacibaci wrote: AFAIK, SS was always phoning home with license checks. This is nothing new. Maybe they just started cracking down on illegal sales. If you purchased an SS license, and didn't get sealed card in mail, I would be suspicious. That is NOT correct, the license check started with SS 7, not before that.

Conclusion The number of features that Synology packs into Surveillance Station is quite impressive, considering the application is completely free to users. In addition to what I've discussed in this review, there are other features that we didn't touch on. For example, you can add an Axis Door Controller that allows you to control doors from within Surveillance Station, allowing you to see who's at the front door and buzz them in if they're allowed to enter, a feature that's probably not that useful for a home user but could be great for a small business. If you're looking for a relatively inexpensive way to monitor your home or business, then buying a low end Synology NAS device and a few IP cameras is a great way to get a lot of advanced features to help keep your building secure. If you already have a Synology NAS device and a camera or two, spend some time playing around with Surveillance Station to see if it helps meet your needs.

The same licence worked also on baremetal Xpenology 6.02. Now I have gone over to ESXi based environment and the licence does not activate anymore, giving the 'connection failed' error I have tried SN and MAC pair generated by the excel file available in the net. I have also tried the original MAC and SN from the DS112, with still the connection failed message at activation the licence.

Sure lock down licences so they can only be active on one NAS at a time, got no issues with that! But don't turn licences into a 'leasing' product. But looking at the recent synology changes, they want to nickel and dime everyone all the way.

See above, yes its crap for you and yes doesn't help you out either. As I said in posts before, I really think Synology should look at tossing some 'good will' here for those that bought licences via valid/approved resellers and replace the licences for free. Sure, write a letter to your supplier and see what they say. But first I would write to synology and ask them to confirm they are invalid licences. Send this reply along to your supplier and ask for 'replacement' licences, as you had been sold counterfeit ones. Nyknicks8 wrote:so you dont succumb to fraud by synology. Still don't get it do you.

What will you do? You're already violating ToS by using XPEnology, so. Thanks, I was under the impression that xpenology was leveraging open source software (or at least not completely proprietary) and not an infringement of Synology license. Is that not so? That's why I was curious about the surveillance package as it is quite clearly an 'add-on' synology sell and should be compensated for. Yes, the Xpenology is really only the Linux kernel with some mechanisms in-place to combat the checks done by the Synology OS, extra drivers and it emulates the device that has serial number. But the real problem starts when you download the PAT file and use the proprietary parts of the Synology OS on the box that wasn't licensed for it.

Fixed lens cameras which provide more than one stream at a time will require one license only. For removable lens cameras, Synology will charge you per channel.

Probably not, because then they'd just say you should have bought from somewhere that doesn't raise 10 kinds of red flags. It sounds like instead of just doing something relatively simple, which probably would have taken all of a few seconds, you chose to complain about it for some reason. But you fail to realize with a beta there are a multitude of issues that can be looked into rather than honing in on fraudulent licenses as the only cause.

Could it be beta? Could it be a server issue? Could it be migrating diskstations? While I didn't elaborate on my particular situation I migrated from a 412+ to a 916+ and I didn't delete the license keys prior to migrating. So rather than looking into that being a possible issue it was prove you have a legit key. And yes I 'PROVED' I purchased the license from a legit reseller (Amazon), yet as soon as I proved it tech support got very quiet. I followed tech supports troubleshooting and they thought that I should have deleted the license from my previous NAS before migrating the hard drive to the new NAS.

Technically, in some countries its illegal to bypath the mechanisms that prevent you from running on a non-licensed hardware, so the bootloader would also be illegal. Thanks, I was under the impression that xpenology was leveraging open source software (or at least not completely proprietary) and not an infringement of Synology license. Is that not so?

Bluesync wrote:I'm gonna write a complaint to the reseller and see how he reacts. Yep I agree its crap, I also would be upset if my licences got blocked for no reason as well. I'm not saying you knew that you brought fake licences, I'm just saying that if your licences have become blocked, history has shown us there is a very good chance somewhere in the supply chain bad licences got inserted unknowingly to everyone and ended up in your hands.

(An why I expressed 'WOW Synology phones back home!' Theme which will be discussed in my next session with my psychologist). I am just being sarcastic LOL. Yet again, rolling back to previous versions has ALWAYS been a drag if you want to keep everything clean and dandy as it is/was before this. This is why I stress on relaxing, breathing and coming to terms to having to start clean. Rolling back will certainly be best thinking that you have to start up with a clean slate and stay tight until this roller coaster (which for me started since 6.3 onwards) comes to more stable grounds. I think most certainly you could back up recordings for future reference without a problem before the rollback, but you might most certainly can not make them accessible through the installed SS database that you rolled back to.

Rated 4 out of 5 by Anonymous from Expensive, but needed Before purchasing this 4-pack license from B&H, I contacted Synology asking if these licenses were tied to a specific camera because I was going to swap out lower quality cameras in the future. They replied that the license is tied to the NAS and not the camera. I can swap cameras all I want. The NAS determines how many cameras are licensed for the Surveillance software. The price seems a little excessive (for that, I took away 1 star). But hopefully that money allows Synology to keep updating the software.

Now when I update from 7 to 8 it became counterfeit. I doubt it had anything to do with counterfeit and more to do with upgrading the diskstation and synologys poor implementation and instructions. I only blame synology and they should pay the price.

Not 'as' but 'like' who sends their credit card number this way right? *sigh* I do not even want to THINK (nor try) my luck upon newer iterations of SS!!!

The license key can only be applied to one Synology product, however to satisfy special requirements from users, each license key can be migrated once. Note: Online connectivity is required for license activation. License migration count is restricted to one since Surveillance Station 8.0.

I reluctantly applied the official 8 release today hoping they fixed the issue, but I am back in the same boat now as well. Also opened a ticket and pretty much expecting them to tell me to bugger off like they did the last time, but maybe I'll get lucky. I unfortunately never saved my license key card, not that is seems to make a difference for some others that have also contacted support.

No Chrome, Firefox.

Tech support and troubleshooting is about 'SUPPORT' and not trying to accuse people of having fraudulent licenses. Rather than looking into possibilities of how this could be happening it becomes a futile effort of support saying unless you prove with a receipt and license booklet your the owner we won't support you. I mean, they're literally just asking for proof you actually bought the keys from somewhere legitimate and not somewhere that sold the keys to multiple people. Would you whine and complain to the MPAA if you bought a movie from some dude back alley wearing a trenchcoat and it didn't play? Probably not, because then they'd just say you should have bought from somewhere that doesn't raise 10 kinds of red flags.

I do not think that the price is a good value but it is the least expensive available out there. Unfortunately, there is very little competition out there which would have driven the costs down. Nonetheless, this is the definitive place to get your license right now and you don't need to go around wasting your time.

I was able to determine the correct selection based on the data provided, but this could potentially be an issue depending on how long the version information is. In addition, I didn't actually see a difference in performance regardless of which firmware version I selected. The next page is where you configure the camera's video and audio (if applicable) formats, as well as the resolution.

I feel the chances of your licences being blocked if buying from APPROVED suppliers TODAY, would be extremely low. We are talking well under 100 people reporting blocked keys out of millions of NAS units sold. All keys reported blocked have a purchase date from 2+ years ago.

I have a total of 9 cameras with 10 licenses. In theory even if one of my CPL4 licenses are marked as invalid that would leave me with 6 active licenses, but Surveillance Station knocked all cameras off and deactivated them. If I have 6 remaining valid licenses why can't I activate 6 cameras while synology troubleshoots why one of my licenses were invalidated. I should have the ability to have camera active that corresponds to the number of camera licenses I have Now back to the bigger problem.why was my license key marked as invalid? I've been using my keys for over a year and then upon upgrade it invalidates on of them? Synology should build in a safeguard that it checks licenses prior to upgrading and if there is going to be a problem it flags it.

Synology Surveillance Station License Key Generator

As noted earlier, the IP Camera tool is used when you want to initially set up a camera or make any changes in the future. The same features you set up initially can be modified again. The Timeline tool is where a lot of cool features live, and is what you'll use if you suspect something has happened in your building and want to see what it was.

Might be that there are some detection mechanisms for non genuine HW. I also tried to fall back to the oldest possible surveillance station with no success. My workaround: I am running separate Xpenology instance on ESXi for every pair of cameras. Not very convenient as they have separate timelines. Still looking for a more permanent solution, and I'm ready to buy more licences if I get it working.

Note: • Surveillance Station running on Virtual DSM, will not include any default device licenses. • Default license keys cannot be migrated.

Synology Surveillance Station License Hack

Synology hasn't done any 'fraud' to you directly. They have blocked licence keys that have been abused by others. You're just the victim of this abuse, but are too silly to know where to direct your rage. Question for you. Would you jump up and down at Nike if you brought knock off shoes via a 3rd party and demand a new pair from Nike? As this is what you're asking. Instead of searching for 'hacks', why don't you go look up the meanings of some of these words you keep tossing around and using wrongly.

Let say synology will find a way to identify that you have installed extra license on xpenology, and will revoke all extra licenses with no refund? What will you do? If I already own a synology NAS or buy a cheap second hand one could I use its SN and MAC on my xpenology build to install a legitimately purchased license?

Axis M3007) which support native dewarping may provide more than one stream (e.g. Quad View, Double Panorama, and Original View) at a time. Each of regular and panoramic cameras requires one license only. There are two types of multi-lens cameras, fixed lens and removable lens. Fixed lens cameras which provide more than one stream at a time will require one license only. For removable lens cameras, Synology will charge you per channel. Take Axis F44 for example.

Now I have gone over to ESXi based environment and the licence does not activate anymore, giving the 'connection failed' error I have tried SN and MAC pair generated by the excel file available in the net. I have also tried the original MAC and SN from the DS112, with still the connection failed message at activation the licence. Might be that there are some detection mechanisms for non genuine HW. I also tried to fall back to the oldest possible surveillance station with no success.

= can double the cost / camera There are few NVRs that license by the camera. And the ones that do are Commercial / enterprise class systems.

While the former is easier, I found there were many issues that I was unable to resolve, the most important of which is the fact that I was unable to actually play video, regardless of whether I was using Edge, Firefox, or Chrome. Therefore I'd highly recommend sticking to the desktop application. This is one area where Synology could make things a little clearer for the end user. Aside from downloading the Synology Assistant, I've rarely had a reason to go to the company's support site to download anything else. Unfortunately, after installing Surveillance Station, there's no indication that a desktop client even exists. Considering the fact that the program is completely new and the web version doesn't really work well, I'd think this should be more prominently explained to the user. There are versions of the client available for both Windows and Mac (sorry Linux users), and the installation is a basic wizard that's easy to get through.

(furthering my psycological problems and fattening my psychologist´s wallet LOL) not!!! I am just joking here! I do really think this IS a mess. Then again I am a positive thinker and I truly believe Synology has very capable people. I am hopeful that one day, on a brainstorm meeting somewhere in Taiwan, they will finally come to terms and broaden their horizons getting rid of this license mess with SS. Lacibaci wrote: AFAIK, SS was always phoning home with license checks. This is nothing new.

Synology Camera License Packs are designed for expanding cameras setup on the Synology Surveillance Station. By default, two camera licenses are installed. By applying the license key on the Surveillance Station user interface, you will be able to set up and manage more cameras on the network.

It's hard to criticize base on features only. Cons: EXPENSIVE! Yeah, other comparisons were made to THE most expensive systems you can buy BUT I assure you, there are alternatives that cost less than 1 license and supports 24+ cameras with MORE features than this one. And runs on an inexpensive Windows platform.

Most of the time, each IP camera, I/O module, and access controller will only require one license, and each transaction device will require two licenses. However, there are some cameras that have different billing methods.

Explained what the licenses do, but the inevitable question is 'Why?' The best way I have seen it explained is that you are paying for the continued development of the Surveillance application on a scale that ranges for the use you have. If I'm Joe Average homeowner with two or three cameras, then buying my Synology NAS and having it serve as a surveillance system is a bonus. If I'm Fred Businessowner then buying ten licenses plus the hardware is compariable to purchasing a professional grade surveillance system from a vendor. An RS815 + 16 licenses is probably about $2000 without disks. That's not terribly far off the mark for a professional grade NVR system that probably has similar functionality as the Surveillance Station software. I'm not saying I like it a whole lot, but it makes sense.
